What is Clinical Metal Toxicology?

Heavy metal toxicity is a growing health problem. The Federal Governments NHANES study demonstrated high rates of pollution with mercury, lead, cadmium, arsenic and other metals, in people from all parts of the United States. These metals are proven causes of many diseases, including learning disabilities, high blood pressure, immune disorders and many others. For most toxic metals, there is no safe body level.

The techniques for removing heavy metals from the body were developed in the twentieth century in Russia, Germany, and England, in part in response to wartime needs. Each toxic metal has specific chemical characteristics, requiring a different approach. Each bonding agent designed to remove heavy metals from the body bonds differently with different metals. Most bonding agents also remove beneficial minerals as they remove toxic ones. Safe clinical application of this knowledge requires specialized training.

The American Board of Clinical Metal Toxicology has been developing and perfecting clinical protocols, training and certifying doctors in their use since 1982. For further information, see their website at ABCMT.org.
